Now - most of his stories are very good, especially "The Beginning of Armadillos". He has a more-than-decent sense of humor, a degree of empathy towards children, and so on. But what bothers me is "How the Leopard got his Spots". He uses racist terms within it, and depicts an African man as animal like, his skin an apparent hunting aid. The worst of it is that many children in Kipling's time-period who read this man's stories would go on believing that calling someone a "nigger" and taking his land is A-OK. And that's terrible.
